Chapter 6

Chaos.

Angelina’s call was whisper soft. Her ability to commune with the Air might have been blocked, but Chaos was certain he felt the breath of her whispered word next to his ear. A shiver engulfed his body and the fine hair on the back of his neck stood on end.

I am here, Goddess.

We have much to discuss.

So it would seem. He sighed. The very powerful Goddess of Air was unsure of herself. She needed him more than ever. What would you ask of me?

Are you using me as a means to control all the elements?

Would you believe me if I said “no?”

There was silence as she gave the question some thought. Chaos could sense her confusion and indecision and knew they were alien to her. All her life as an Elemental she’d known exactly what to do. It was why she had been chosen. She was strong beyond belief, yet face her with the possibility of losing her heart and she froze. Chaos knew her mind, knew her dilemma. He knew her greatest fear was losing herself in another so that she let go her responsibilities and made the Air second place in her life. What she hadn’t realized was she needed to do exactly that. At least to a certain extent. No one person was meant to surrender themselves to the keeping of an element for eternity. That was the balance Chaos could offer her.

Should I believe you, Chaos? You’ve never given me any reason to doubt you desire control over the elements again. It would give you control of the universe. Isn’t that what you told Allison you wanted?

Yes. But can’t one change his goals over time? It’s been more than twenty years since then the eruption at Yellowstone. Chaos was weary. He was very much afraid his past mistakes would haunt him for a very long time to come.
